I had 3 papers in 2 days and 1 paper tomorrow morning at 9am=) or rather later today at 9am. hahaha. and i've faced 2 security guards who have the delusional thought that they have to lock up the classroom. Praise be to God who sustained me in the past 4 days of staying over and intense studying. Praise be to God who gave me sisters and brothers who're understanding enough to bear with my temper when i'm tired out and to brighten my spirits when i'm down. Praise be to God who supplied coffee and coke and food supplies and the USM sisters and brothers who brought down home made stress balls that stuck to walls and gui ling gao and desserts and mamee and twisties and for claramae and shirley and benaiah who constantly came to visit us in the wee hours of the night, bring funny things like kiwis with them. Thank God for them! :) hahaha.
i feel joyful 'cos i just finished talking to michelle about some stuff and we prayed with eugene. when two or three come in His name, He is there with them. and indeed. joy in the face of unfinished studying and lack of sleep for so many days. it's like a natural stimulant - the joy of God which lifts you up. Better than any coffee or coke. hahaha. speaking of coke, do you know the coca cola company is responsible for the manufacturing and distribution of coke, sprite, qoo, heaven and earth teas and lots of goodness knows what. hahaha. diversification. faint.

- how far is heaven -

sleep still lurks at the corner, threatening to overtake me as i study for the physical geography segment of the paper. i just pray to God that i'll be able to remember them. hahaha.

is it possible to score the best grade for one subject in one sem and score the worst in another sem? i seem to be doing so for the subject of lit. what's hurting is that i've tried the hardest and has seemingly done the analysis of it the same way as i've always done before, yet it doesn't seem to be working.
wellus.

how interesting that my dear faithful laptop which has never died on me before (even after i've dropped it for two times) has to die on me yesterday night when i'm studying for abnormal psy. it's as if God had enough of me being distracted by the things around that He's decided to cause my laptop to happily die so as to prevent me from being further distracted and really concentrate on studying quickly and effectively in preparation for my 2 exams this friday. It was frustrating at first, all the efforts at trying to go into the system just didn't work. it hangs and hangs happily at that. the cursor moves but nothing else does. i don't even get to see my interactive desktop. sadness.
but having a change of mindset certainly caused me to focus on my tb better. and it was with a startling realisation that i found out i have 2 more chapters to study instead of just one, which i originally thought. and it was with great enjoyment that i could read the chapter once through (personality disorders was what i was reading through) and could answer the chapter test at the back and had only one mistake=] hahaha. considering that it was the only abnormal psy lecture which i skipped, i find it a great surprise to be able to do such a thing. sadly, after i slept, i could no longer replicate such a thing. confirms the fact that i study better at night. lol.
and so currently i'm at home on my pc, which i haven't turned on for around 5 months. it's a good thing i suppose, allowing me to update my pc's anti virus system, as well as making sure that i won't habbo and actually study at the same time, which can be quite detrimental for my concentration span. Thank God for jit's ipod shuffle which supplied me with the moderate arousal from the environment i needed for optimum productivity (according to my dear adorable abnormal psy textbook which states that one of the hypothesis for antisocial personality disorder could be due to the underarousal theory of some sort. lol)

As i mentioned in my msn nick, when i muttered to myself that i need some background noise to be able to study, i really didn't expect God to cause a thunderstorm to happen at the next instant. haha.
And it was good. 'cos the thunderstorm drowned out every other voice that was around and allowed me to concentrate. the coolness of the air perked my senses and caused me to be much more alert than ever. not that this alertness lasted long, but well, it was effective for a short period of time nonetheless.
i haven't been updating for a while. have been busy and caught up with the upcoming exams and with litez stuff around. speaking of litez stuff... i went to watch manderlay with liwen, cindy and deryuan. brilliant movie. considering that i spent one whole week analysing 'manderlay's prequel (both movies belong to a trilogy) --- dogville, i have no choice but to learn to appreciate this movie. and indeed, i really enjoyed myself immensely. the film was supposed to last for 2 hrs+, but i felt as if it was only 50 mins or so. too short for me. the director should increase the timing of the film.
some parts i didn't particularly like were the sexual scenes featured in the show. somehow, i dun understand why they're there or how they contribute to the overall feel of the film. i can understand what the director is trying to bring across but he could have done it in a more subtle way. hurhur. the changing of the actress for the character Grace brought across a facade of Grace in which i was unable to detect in the first movie. i felt that using the same misc-en-scene was not particularly wise in this case due to the fact that a planatation is simply much larger than a town and you can't really express the presence of that plantation with just chalk lines. though to tell the truth, i still love how everything is so transparent 'cos of the absence of real walls and that kinda staff. could be due to the fact that i have a strong appreciation for theatrical works...and a movie made likes this just encompassed both things i like - theatre and movies.
yea=] can't wait to watch wasington. to have to wait for a yr for that movie is quite agonizing.
hehe.
exams are coming up. i dunno if i'm supposed to feel stressed. though the lack of time is really getting to me. pray that i will soar like the eagle who rides on the wind to achieve height. a cooperation with the holy spirit, and not by my own efforts=)

i woke up this morning and realized that i missed my lit tutorial. i woke up this morning and realized that i identify with the verse in Romans. i woke up this morning and went to check out the verse in Romans.

Romans 7:18-19:
'I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For i have the desire to do what is good, but i cannot carry it out. For what i do is not the good i want to do, no, the evil i do not want to do - this i keep on doing.'

ever felt this way before? that you want to achieve something, but somehow you can't seem to reach that point whereby you can fully achieve it. Or when you don't wanna do something, you do it instead (eg. procrastination) haha. i can bring this up to a larger scale, but i think this small illustration brings out what i wanted to say.

As such, i find myself identifying with this verse as well

Romans 7:21-24
' So i find this law at work: When i want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but i see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man i am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?'

and i rejoice with Paul as he comes to the realization ...
'Thanks be to God - through Jesus Christ our Lord!'

I hold onto the hope and the promise that Jesus has rendered victory over sin. It's this hope that keeps me from being jaded with the world and allows me to have faith in people around me. It is this hope that heals my wounds when i'm hit by what the world throws at me. It is this hope that i find peace in when i'm troubled, frustrated and still struggling. =]

oh yes. lemme share about how interesting the world is.
the world seems to give a brand label to the topic of sex. the trivialisation of what it is, the pride of people in talking about it.. boasting about it. it's so. weird.
i was just talking about premarital sex not being good and everything on air when it strikes me that it seems as though i can only talk openly about this kinda thing with the brothers and sisters. like discuss about issues, not sexualise ur conversation.
i take a very scientific view towards the discussion of this topic (maybe 'cos of bio... lol). to clarify.
i've got a replacement sim card=] and i'm using my sister's old phone now..so u can call or sms me from now on. haha.
i went to school today not being in the best of moods. went to hq (engine bridge)and borrowed jan's (i think) guitar and chordbook to play. heh. i enjoy being able to play and sing the song at the same time:) i remember gwen telling me before that it's a useful skill to pick up..especially if u're going church planting in the future :) i can't really practice on my acoustic guitar 'cos the strings are relatively far from the neck of the guitar and it hurts like crazy when i press on the metal strings. haha.
maybe after i've saved up money for a new guitar :)
social work tutorial was particularly enjoyable. it was enjoyable 'cos of the presence of many pple i know personally. having a nice tutor was good. though social work as a discipline is quite a letdown. all the social policies and models just dun attract me. haha.
i enjoyed the unit meeting today. haha. 'cos the NUST (nus transfer, not NUS Tamar. haha) sisters joined us today:D haha. it's a joy to see youth sisters. really. especially jingting and jocelyn.. pple whom u've been in the same cg with before. haha.
i enjoyed ruifeng's testimony as well. ruifeng is a brother who achieves quite a lot in the world, having patents in USA and appearing on zao an ni hao and appearing in the school's magazine for an interview.. it always strike me as amazing how he takes insight to the different circumstances God has placed around him:)
ah. i think i shall not go on abt the meeting. haha. i pretty much enjoyed basking in the presence of God and His people. lovely. it made my whole day so much brighter :)
and speaking of basking in the presence of people.. ahhaa. looking forward to tmr as well. dinner with jiali (2nd time in the week), fire, stick, bas, jas and niee=) haha. california pizza kitchen. now why does that sound familiar? =)
...
on a totally different note.. there's mention of house today. haha. and i got reminded of the house we wanted to stay in together.. me jits qing and fungi=) hahaa. my impression of the house goes like this.. that we have a depression in the living room, whereby huge cushions are put.. i'll like to put a ledge at the living room too, with tall windows and white translucent curtains. the white curtains will seperate me from the rest of the living room. sit at the ledge to watch the world go by, think about things or just to read books or do work. haha. draw? haha. do qt.
i'm already 20. are we still having the house?
it doesn't feel like 20. i remember when i was 12, i wanted to be 24 so i cld do watever i wanna do. haha. 20 feels so. normal. i dun feel any more mature or wise than i was yesterday or the day before or the day day before and so on and on and on. haha.

- the promises you'll only make
drink up all day long and forget all about
the pressure of days
do what they say and i'll make them okay
and drive them away
the images stuck in your head-

what i want to do, i keep on not doing. what i do not want to do, i keep on doing. this internal struggle between doing what is right and doing things that are comfortable is one big struggle i'm having. circumstances didn't seem to help though. i realised a day ago that i'm not particularly well versed in my social work module.. didn't really know how to complete the social work tutorial.. as a result, i've decided to go and search up on other recommended readings for social work and also to photocopy the readings required for the tutorial.. and yet in the end, though i got my readings, i lost my handphone.

you know, losing a handphone is particularly frustrating when you have to organise the birthday celebrations for people this saturday, and you have to contact your shepherd and sheep for meetups and you have to contact your project mates for project meetings and you need your handphone for the alarm function. it is also terrible devastating when u realise that ur 42mb of photos and videos (memories from the past 8 months) are all gone in an instant.. 'cos the memory card is in the phone and the phone is gone. it hurts when you were telling yourself it's an investment when you buy the phone at $582 last june before you go over to hongkong and start snapping photos. my tutorial was at 12pm. i woke up at 12pm 'cos my mum's alarm didn't work. thank God i woke up.

-people you've been before that you don't want around anymore
they push and shove and won't bend to your will-

the sky is blue everyday when i wake up. it's a nice sight. and the sky remains blue when i'm down, or when i'm elated. sometimes i wonder why i continue to run towards Him. it's such a tiring race. it's a marathon and i've never been one who likes to go running for long distance. sometimes i limp along, yet there are people who decide to stop and even when limping, i need to pull the person along. in the race of life, in the race of life.

the world has its fair share of people. people who are down and out and jaded about life. people who settles for what they have in their lives. i see the world in colours. the world is never meant for just dark green and black and gray. it's never meant to be just as that. there're splashes of blue and strokes of pink and swirls of orange. they're there somewhere... just don't let the jadedness and disillusionment in life cover them up.

it's a tiring race. it's always easier to give up. settle for the melancholy of life. settle into your sinful nature. do what everyone is doing. be how you've been in the past and will be in the future. melt into the sea of green and black and grayness.

-the potential you'll be, but you'll never see
the promises you'll only make-

can you see the colours around that God has painted the world in? right now i may be slightly beaten from what is happenining in my life, but every morning when i wake up and see the blue sky, i get reminded of how the blue is meant to be in my life.

Click here to view my house

You are sensitive and indecisive at times. You are a freedom lover and a strong person. You are shy and reserved. If you've drawn a cross on each of windows, you always want to live alone. You are very tidy person. There's nothing wrong with that because you're pretty popular among friends. Your life is always full of changes.

You will avoid being alone and seek the company of others whenever possible. You love excitement and create it wherever you go. You have a strong personality and you like to command, influence and control people.

You added a flower into your drawing. The flower signifies that you long for love. We also see that you are sensuous, sexual, and privately passionate. You don't think much about yourself.

-dance dance
i'm falling apart to her time-

it's a sleepy afternoon. hahha. i was naughty to skip geog lecture BUT there's webcast. so not so bad. wellus=)
i think i've felt rather relaxed this whole sem. so bad. eeks. lol. i shld start picking myself up. up and up and up. lol

it was valentine's day on tuesday! hahaa. that whole day was rather amusing. went for tutorial in the morning (10am tutorial) and the girls were all wearing skirts or dresses. everyone was wearing more extravagantly than before. quite a refreshing sight to tell the truth. haha
then came to hq to distribute chocolates. haha. then subsequently more chocs came, cookies came, snickers came, a cake ( by hongdao!) came.. haha. then the brothers were very sweet. they made a bottle with 2 stars and lots of funny stuff inside and cut out a heart using spongey material and wrote each sister's name on each individual heart. there was a verse at the back to encourage the sisters as well. haha. it's small, but it's very nice!
a sister (i can't remember who)commented that it seems as though sisters tend to go for the perishable whereby brothers will tend to go for the imperishables. lol. more practical? lol.
yea. that was the sch part for valentine's day.
then all the sisters (20 of us) went off to sky garden at suntec city. hahaha. we dabao-ed food there=) got a great time eating and sharing and talking and all that. we had games and a sharing by clara and shirley...which kinda left me thinking into the night. was a memorable and even fruitful valentine's day spent=)

come take me to the place where You cld be found
i want to praise You Lord
all of my life
i want to let You know from the depth of my heart
You'll be forever Lord
the love of my life-

5.07am on a saturday morning. tomorrow will be chinese new year. and tonight is chinese new year's eve.
went for service yesterday night... jasmine was teaching about 'a new you for a new year'... doing stockchecking upon ourselves to see which areas we can grow in.
i think something that spoke quite personally to me is in the area of my family... that i'm not very close to my family. we have superficial talk like 'have you eaten?' and 'what time will you be home?' and no one, i mean no one in my family actually hugs each other. or affirms through touch. but i want to go beyond this superficiality. i want to learn to love these people who have been with me for all these yrs. though sometimes they hurt me, or i hurt them.
ha ha. it's even harder when you're a christian and the whole family is not and sometimes misunderstandings occur.
you know, a person can only love others to the extent to which the person has been loved. and i want to go beyond my pride (and a trust in God opening chances for me) to learn more about my family members and to love them more. i started with a small step of going to the market to help out at 11++pm after service. managed to help in translating to this lady who didn't understand chinese at all. yay. then talked to my mum a bit when we walked home.
she wants me to find a bf again =.=
but it was good.
i have this deep yearning to really want to know the people around me. not know in the superficial sense... but a deeper understanding about my friends..that i'll be able to appreciate them for both their strengths and their weaknesses. to know them as a whole. to love them even after knowing them as a whole.

Dear God,
I was reading a couple of letters which some children wrote to you. I thought they looked at things at quite an interesting way. i would like to see things the way they do too.
love,
me

---
Dear God,
i would like my house in heaven to be a swimming pool with a waterfall at the end. there'll be taps flowing with soup ('cos i love soup) and lots of story books for me to read. there'll be a lounge chair made of super comfy material for me to read these books above the pool. it'll be good if there's a machine which will give me anything i want. most likely there'll be angels serving us so i don't have to worry about my food. oh yah God.. if Claire or Robert desires to cook in heaven, pls pass the food to me. thanks.

---
Dear God,
i acknowledge that sometimes i get terribly disappointed with the people around me...especially since i have a high expectation of myself and the people around me. but i also acknowledge that i have a covenant with my beloved brothers and sisters to help each other to grow (either me or them) and to give them my support and grace to the extent that i have experienced from you. these people whom i know will definitely die for me if the need arises and vice versa, and i thank You for them:)

love,
me

---
Dear God,
You're perfect. I'm not.
I'm so glad that You are God and i am not. 'cos if i am God, the world will be quite disoriented.

love,
me

---
Dear God,
i am tired and i'm going to sleep. Thanks for listening. good night:)

love,
me

ah. i haven't updated my blog in 2 months. hahaa. weezi, fungi, tracy and goodness knows who else actually visits my blog...apologies for slacking in the updating of my life:) hehehe.
it's the first post in 2006, and 2006 to me came as a relief. the 2nd sem in nus, the start of a new year to reflect upon what has happened in 2005. the things learnt, the thought processes changed. 2005 to me was a tough year. it was tough emotionally and spiritually. had to deal with lots of different thought patterns i tend to have, have to really change many different aspects of my life. it was a year of moulding, of trying new things and of a deeper level of faith in God. a year of many changes (sudden ones. hahaa) and of breaking my pride.
it's a year of great learning as well. and more serious reflection upon my actions. and the reconsiliation of different aspects in my life. it's the year i learn to be more organised, more planned (lol) and a little bit more disciplined in doing things.
cutting it short. it was the first yr of make or break in my spiritual life..and i'm glad that He has brought me through. and healed any wounds that i might have incurred along the way.
hahaa.
anyway. 2006 is here. lol. and i'm really looking forward to the stuff that might come my way:) 4 areas of my life to juggle. lalala:)

nygep pple:
i'm really glad we stayed in touch all these yrs. LOL. though now the outings seem to be lesser.. i know that friends remain as friends as long as the love remains. lol. u all remain nonsensical as always..hope that we can have a major gathering in june when all of u come back from wherever u all are (US and UK and Australia) x)

vjcians:
lol. u noe who u are. i'm lazy to type it out. really glad that i've got the chance to meet up with u all today:) hahaa. looking forward to the next outing. schools and a continent can't seperate us!

wellus. i'm typing real fast now. lol. and without much sense. school tomorrow:) looking forward to lectures with the pple i noe. woohoo. hahaha. and looking forward to seeing the hope brothers and sisters at hq:)

-i wanna know You inside and out
better than i even know myself
by heart by soul
that's how i want to know You
keep You as close as
breath is to life
and watch Your love unfold
by heart by soul-

in school now, supposed to be planning my time for this week. hahaa. realized that the end of the semester is officially here! gosh. it seems like just yesterday that i've had my matriculation or something:)
it's been some time since the deejaying at litez as well:) enjoyed myself when i was deejaying but it got to a point of mild irritation when you realize that your 'life' in habbo (if there's such a word to describe the activities in habbo itself) is kinda disrupted by people around demanding that you deejay at that moment. have yet to officially settle a theme for the times when i deejay. running out of songs though. and considering that i don't download songs, that can prove to be a mild problem. hahaa.

-or do you just pick up the pieces after they fall
but afterall
there's a light in your eyes i used to see
and a song in your words you spoke to me
was i wrong to believe you were waiting here for me
there's a light in your eyes
did you leave that light burning for me?-

exams start on the 22nd of november:) woohoo.
i have a lot of things to type about..but have that conscious awareness that my blog have become quite public and all kinds of people might actually read it. lol. nevertheless, i shall attempt to acquire the skill of self-delusion. my blog is mine, and mine alone. for my eyes and my enjoyment.
not
not much happened in life. except for a breakthrough in thoughts about some stuff (wonderful) and a slight awe and amazement about the things people already do at my age. setting up a website and achieving in a game? that idea goes beyond my head. all of a sudden, the candle making venture that we were supposed to have continued with pokes me from the deep depths of my memory once again. lol.
i have dreams that go beyond just a candle making venture. hahaa. i have dreams that involve the arts faculty and its people. i have dreams that involve another country and the people there. i have dreams that involve the little seminary in joo chiat itself. i have dreams that involve a lot of sacrifice and a lot of love and courage (of which i know i am unable to obtain at this moment). yet i have the confidence that each day, what i do, experience and learn propels me towards the dream which i have in mind. and if this dream is funded by my dear Father from up above, there is no doubt in my mind that all things will be found in Him.
yes:)
the installment of great ambitions in everyone awaits the fulfillment of these great ambitions and is dependent upon the source of strength for the person to fulfill all these things. (xinying's spot of inspiration, copyright 2005)

In the recesses of a soul
Another wound is split open
Many a stitches fail to stitch it up
Hurts that fail to repair itself
Unable to be covered
Reappearing again and again
To which day will they disappear?

It's wonderful having brothers and sisters staying in the residence halls and hostels around NUS. my crazy project mates have decided at the last minute to meet at 7am at forum in the school itself. I've decided to stay over at qiaoping's room so that i can walk to forum in the morning and YeuAnn, who's staying over at HQ will be helping me take care of my large large project so that i don't have to carry the big big project and walk for 10 mins to ridge hall and then walk another 10 mins back in the morning. woohoo! Thank God for the both of them!:D:D:D
This is an example from the lecture of gender differences in my gender studies module:

David Reimer was born a normal male infant, one of identical twins, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was named Bruce and his brother Brian. At the age of 6 months, after concern was raised about how Bruce and Brian urinated, both boys were diagnosed with phimosis. They were referred for circumcision at the age of 8 months (it is not known whether alternative therapies were tried). On April 27, 1966, the surgeon Jean-Marie Huot and the anaesthesiologist Max Cham performed the circumcision with the aid of a Bovie cautery machine (which is not intended for use on extremities and genitals). Bruce's penis was destroyed. After this, Brian's circumcision was cancelled, and he made a full recovery from his condition without further treatment. [1] Some believe that this indicates that Bruce's circumcision was unnecessary.

Bruce's parents, concerned about his prospects for future happiness and sexual function without a penis, took him to Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore to see John Money, a psychologist who was developing a reputation as a pioneer in the field of sexual development and gender identity based on his work with intersex patients. Money was a prominent proponent of the theory that gender identity was relatively "plastic" in infancy and developed primarily as a result of social learning from early childhood; most liberal academics in the late 1960s felt that all psychological and behavioral differences between males and females were learned. He and the physicians working with other young children born with abnormal genitalia felt that a penis could not be replaced but that a functional vagina could be constructed surgically and that he would be more likely to achieve successful, functional sexual maturation as a girl than as a boy.

They persuaded his parents that this course would be in Bruce's best interest, and at the age of 22 months, surgery was performed to remove his testes and construct a vagina. He was "reassigned" to be raised as a female and given the name 'Brenda'. Psychological support for the reassignment and surgery was provided by John Money, who continued to see Brenda for years, both for treatment and to assess the outcome. This reassignment was considered an especially valid "test case" of the social learning concept of gender identity for two reasons. First, Bruce/Brenda had a twin brother, Brian, who made an ideal "control" since he had shared not only the genes, but both the intrauterine and family environments. Second, this was reputed to be the first reassignment and reconstruction performed on a male infant who had no abnormality of prenatal or early postnatal sexual differentiation or hormones.

For several years, Money reported on Brenda's progress as the "John/Joan case", describing apparently successful female gender development, and using this case to support the feasibility of sex reassignment and surgical reconstruction even in non-intersex cases. Estrogen was given to Brenda when she reached adolescence to induce breast development. However, Brenda had experienced the visits to Baltimore as traumatic rather than therapeutic and her family discontinued the follow-up visits. John Money published nothing further about the case to suggest the reassignment had not been successful.

Despite Money's accounts, Brenda did not feel like a girl. She was ostracized and bullied by peers, and neither frilly dresses nor female hormones made her feel female. In adolescence the child again began to assume a male gender role to match his male gender identity. By 1997 he had undergone surgery again to reverse the reassignment and was living as David Reimer. He had married a woman, and become a stepfather to her children.

His case came to international attention in 1997 when he told his story to Milton Diamond, an academic sexologist who persuaded David to allow him to report the outcome to dissuade physicians from treating other infants similarly. Soon after, David went public with his story and John Colapinto published a widely disseminated and influential account in Rolling Stone magazine in December, 1997. They went on to elaborate the story in a book.

Although the book made David Reimer more comfortable financially, many other things went badly in his life, including a divorce, severe problems for his parents, and the suicide of his twin brother Brian. David Reimer took his own life with a gun in 2004.

The "Identity" episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit that aired on January 18th, 2005, was based on Reimer's life.

[edit]
Social impact of David Reimer's story
The report and subsequent book about Reimer influenced several medical practices and reputations, and even current understanding of the determinants of gender identity. The case accelerated the decline of sex reassignment and surgery for unambiguous XY male infants with micropenis, various other rare congenital malformations, and penile loss in infancy (described in more detail in intersex.)

It supported the arguments of those who feel that prenatal and early infant hormones have a strong influence on brain differentiation, gender identity and perhaps other sex-dimorphic behavior. The applicability of this case to appropriate sex assignment in cases of intersex conditions involving severe deficiency of testosterone or its effects is more uncertain. For some people the inability to predict gender identity or preference in this case confirmed skepticism about doctors' abilities to do so in general, or about the wisdom of using genital reconstructive surgery to commit an infant with an intersex condition or genital defect to a specific gender role before the child is old enough to claim a gender identity.

Intactivists often cite David Reimer because he underwent both circumcision and sex-reassignment, both of which Intactivists oppose. They argue that in Reimer's case, both were involuntary and medically unnecessary. Intactivists actively try to prevent children from undergoing such procedures. They treat Reimer’s story as a cautionary tale about why one should not needlessly modify the genitals of unconsenting minors. They also mourn Reimer’s death, believing it to be a senseless tragedy that was ultimately caused by his surgeries.

Among the repercussions was damage to John Money's reputation. Not only had his theory of gender plasticity been dealt a severe blow, but he appeared to have ignored or concealed the developing evidence that Brenda's reassignment was not going well.

The reputation of Johns Hopkins Medical Center as an institution at the forefront of progressive care for people with intersex and transgender conditions was hurt as well, and some people seized on this case as proof that physicians should not or could not attempt to help or treat the problems created by birth defects of the genitalia.

Finally, liberal theories of the malleability and cultural construction of gender identity, already falling out of academic fashion in the 1990s, became harder to defend, as the case was used by many to argue that "nature" trumps "nurture". In the face of Reimer's personal tragedy, few professionals felt secure enough to publicly question the accuracy of Reimer's recounted childhood experiences, nor whether the failure occurred because of the relatively late age of reassignment, nor how many more successful outcomes should be considered negated by this failure.

Professor Milton Diamond contributed his feelings about David Reimer's life and death:

"I hope David Reimer's life lives on in documenting the ill in scientific hubris and mendacity and celebrating his courage to expose the harm that was done to him in order to save others from a similar fate. The John/Joan story will be recalled by all those who think that sexual development is simply a matter of upbringing. Rearing is important but must take into account any inherent predisposition with which an individual is born." (e-mail correspondence, May 20, 2004)

my mum's mood varies. so weird.
and i've got a song stuck in my mind for the past 2 days:) it's called 'light in your eyes'. nice song. no one seems to have it though.

there's a light in your eyes i used to see
and a song in your heart you used to bring
was i wrong to believe in your melody
there's a light in your eyes
did you leave that light burning for me

yeah anyway:) gender forcused group yesterday. went without any expectations. hahha. quite an enjoyable time. we went to the zoo and all the sisters went nuts. there were penguins and monkeys which like to pose and snakes and miniature horses and quarrelsome goats and some wandering ones... there were roaring lions which were fighting over four lioness through the strength of their voices, a peacock we saw wandering on the pathways which didn't wanna spread out its tail, penguins, a pelican (??) which was settling comfortably above the penguin cage and only moved once to stretch itself, group penguins and lone penguin, warthogs taking mud spas and refused to move... there were noisy animals and some which didn't make any sound at all. brilliant. there was also a pool in the children's world playland which we utilised quite a lot. hahahaa.enjoyable enjoyable. too bad we got out too late to have a chance to look at the souvenir store. wellus:)

i saw a rat today. it's black in colour and it's quite big. it's longer than my palm and fingers and fatter than my hamster last time.
i saw it at the side of the entrance to the lift i take to go up.
i was like 'oh!'
and the rat shrank away from me. i think it was more afraid of me than i was afraid of it.
i had to slowly walk into the lift. 'cos it was all ready to run from me :P
wellus:)
