oh yeah. wanted to type abt this book i'm reading right now:)
it's called 'the handmaid's tale' by Margaret Atwood...recommended by miss choo in sec 4 but i never could find it till the fated day in vj library when i decided to read other books than agatha christie to pass my time away. hahaha:D
quite an interesting book. talks about a state whereby radiation has caused it hard to have babies...pple are either sterile, or the babies tt do get born are deformed...so it's like they changed this whole system until everyone has specific roles and all babies belong to the state. no one is allowed to go on the process of copulation unless you're assigned a wife. note the word assigned. the high ranking pple are called Commanders and they have each a Wife. If the Wife can't give birth, they can apply for a Handmaid. the sole purpose of the Handmaid is to give birth. they are empty vessels used solely for the purpose of reproduction. and the state uses bible verses which are quoted out of context and thwarted (eg. Blessed are the meek, blessed are the silent ????? ) to suit the purpose of brainwashing the people into believing that their system is the best for everyone. got some farnie parts here and there...like when i read about the Handmaids practicing the prenatal exercise everyday. farnie ah.
think the system's quite sad though.
author's style is good:) She is able to use LOTS of flashbacks without losing the focus and attention of the reader, very interesting style of writing. heh:)
