i came back from watching 'man of letters':) it went past my expectations=] haha. i'm not a person who's good with words, seriously, but the play was exceedingly good, comparable to even the famous music of a twist of fate. it's of a different feel though. man of letters has much more changing of sets, much more actors and much more chaos, yet the splendid fusion of music, acting and brilliant dancing is one that will just captivate you for the 2 hrs of play.
i enjoyed myself immensely. i enjoyed myself even more immensely 'cos i didn't have to pay for the tickets. how do i describe? i can't. it leaves you with an awe that causes you to search your heart, knowing that at a certain period of time, you might have felt at least how one of them has felt. when Ming sang, he drew me in so intensely into his song and his intense emotions that i could identify with how he felt. the grandiousity when it's required blows you apart. the set changing delights you and teases your imagination at how a simple set could be changed into so many various settings with just movements of a bridge forward and backwards, with additional backdrops dropping from the sky.
beautiful seamless acting from emma yong and robin goh. george chan, on the other hand, acting as gan seng, had flaws in this acting. but his character is not easy. having to be a person who is not good with words, yet able to speak eloquently on other occasions, it requires you to sew in the character with your own personality and display this new piece of art to the audience at all times. terribly hard, if you ask me.
wonderful dancing. what can i say? they're brilliant. absolutely brilliant.
and the words used! the words used in the letters for roseanne (acted by emma yong),such lyrical and beautiful language. such rawness of emotions displayed on the stage.
some flaws in the hastened changing of scenes at certain parts. and some flaws with the acting of some of the background character, but overall, a magnificent work to behold. i'm so proud of our singaporean actors and actresses.
