I have also learned lately:
1. That the worst time to get bad publicity over things like your $189 million in reserves, your controversial $5 million, um, tie-up with an insurance company for them cross-sell to your donors, and the revelation that only 52 cents out of every dollar raised in 2002 went towards your foundation's beneficiaries, is right before your big annual charity show.
2. That it is not a good idea to try to brush your teeth while shaving in order to save some time.
3. That one day, science will be able to come up with an explanation for the actual difference between a Permanent Resident and a Citizen of Singapore.
4. That it is called Fabric of the Nation, not Fabrication of the Nation.
5. That Singapore citizenship is so fantastic, that out of 290,000 eligible PR, only 7000 of them are willing to take up Singapore citizenship every year.
6. That at last count, 19 women and 2 men have claimed to have slept with Beckham in Singapore, 8 taxi drivers have claimed that they drove him to Geylang, and 2 teens have claimed to have sold him condoms at their branch of Seven-Eleven.
7. That for my next career, I would like to be a professional Charity Show stunt celebrity. I will be available for hire to all charity and quasi-charity organisations for doing donation-drawing stunts like walking on samurai swords, juggling durians, and having blow darts shot at my nether regions.
I will only take a 30 percent cut of the takings that happen during my segment. And a 10% admin fee.
I am currently in training (working on the durian juggling bit), and should have my diploma in Professional Charity Fund Raising soon. These days, charity work is not seen as a third tier career, ok?
8. That a huge part of Singapore gets a blackout and power failure at 11.30pm on the 13th of April and citizens were left fumbling in the dark, with hardly any news and no warnings on the radio and TV.
For one hour, there was a surreal experience of driving through a pitch black Choa Chu Kang estate, with no street lights and traffic lights, and Singapore drivers suddenly developed polite driving habits, slowing down at traffic junctions and giving way to other cars.
Better to be cautious and polite than dead from a car accident, I always say.
9. That taking a shower by candlelight is also a surreal experience. At least if you missed a spot, no one is going to notice in the dark.
10. That as Singaporeans tried to find out more about the blackout, many must have wondered whether the following potentially unsuccessful blackout warning strategies had been tried:
-using the EMAS electronic expressway signboards to warn motorists to drive carefully because there are no working lights or traffic signals, or EMAS signboards for that matter.
-posting signs in lifts to tell residents not to take the lift because there is no power and you could get stuck inside
-broadcasting warnings on TV so that the affected homes will know that they should not panic, and power will be restored soon.
11. That maybe if we don't mention it in the media too much, during the blackout and the morning after, people won't notice we had a major screw up at the power stations.
And if we do mention it, we should keep stressing that power was restored within the hour. And that our two people manning the hotlines were overwhelmed by 27,000 phone calls.
Wow, one hour so fast. I am sure it was a real consolation to the fellow who was driving around in circles in Choa Chu Kang estate trying to find his way out, while dodging cars at traffic junctions that had no traffic signals. Also a real consolation to the chap stuck in the lift the whole time, or the auntie who had to climb 20 freaking floors after coming home from the late shift.
12. That soon they will be telling us that just like the flooding, there is very little they can do about the power failures.
13. That when you decide call home at 12 midnight, after dragging your fat ass up 9 floors to your friend's flat, after giving him a lift, to make a call to your wife to check on her safety (because the damn mobile network is not working on account of the power failure), make sure you do not ask ambiguous questions like "Dear, do you have any power?"
Between pants of fatigue, it makes you sound like a very randy husband.
Fortunately, she did not answer, "No dear, not tonight. I no strength liao and I want to go back to sleep." Although she did think it.
14. That according to MP Lim Boon Heng, the Government is working to keep cost of living down.
That is a relief. After the increase of GST to 5%, increase in property tax, increase in wage cuts, increase in utilities, and increase in general joblessness, it is good to know we won't be seeing any increases soon.
it is good to know that the Government is helping us keep down whatever has not yet increased.
15. That i was going to say something about Gold Taps and charitable organisations, but I did not want to get sued with the money I donate every month.
16. That according to Singapore Power, the Nicoll Highway collapse interrupted the electricity supply to the Marina Centre area, affecting the Esplanade, Suntec City and Marina Square areas.
And according to them, power was restored about 20 minutes later. But of course.
According to people who were actually working at Suntec, however, this was "complete nonsense", because power took ages to restore.
Now now, I am sure that power was restored in record time, in typical Singapore super-efficient manner. It was all in your mind. Repeat after me, 20 minutes, 20 minutes...
17. That Singaporeans are quick to avoid Circle Line construction areas after the collapse. Roads like the usually jammed Paya Lebar (where Circle Line work is being done too) suddenly became ghost towns the morning after.
18. That whichever authority or reporter who wrote that traffic went back to normal within days after the Nicoll Collapse is either smoking something nasty or knows of a secret road into town that I am not aware of.
19. That at the local Ikea was the sign "FAKTUM - ALL PARTS".
Spare no part. Faktum all (allen key included).
20. That no political careers or Governments were hurt in the filming of the Collapse of the highway. Or the one at the construction site.
21. That a phone dealer at Lucky Plaza actually tried to sell my Angmoh colleague a mobile phone with an added "Handphone Tax" of $45.
What did the phone dealer think my friend was? An Angmoh?
22. That the definition of Tripartism is not "the Government and Employers ganging up to squeeze helpless employees". It is "a partnership of trust built up among workers, bosses and the Government".
23. That putting a Minister in the position of the country's head of Unions is not conflict of interest. It is ensuring win-win harmonious industrial relations.
24. That my kid is not a naughty rebellious sociopath that deserves a caning, but a misunderstood creative and intelligent child who just happens to be a bit boisterous.
25. That you can punish sociopaths in prison but you cannot discipline the sociopaths in school without losing your teaching job.
26. That many countries in the world dislike the US. I wonder why, their soldiers are sent in to liberate countries like Iraq, and after freeing their oppressed people, proceed to socialise with the locals by peeing on them and making them pose in sexual positions.

hahaha. VJ has an advertisement in the newspapers about our integrated programme. now the whole singapore will know how serene's(jane's friend!) face looks like.
haven't gotten back any papers 'cos the teachers just got the papers today.
mr chan was quite amusing today. we had ct session before maths tutorial and lynette was like telling mr chan about how we've gotta finish 4 tutorials by today 'cos mr ho's gonna check that we've done all 4 tutorials:P so mr chan, being extra nice, was encouraging us to do maths during the ct session while he goes around distributing some stuff and stating some announcements. haha.
when mr ho came, mr chan commented 'haha. be prepared to meet your death':P and just before he went out of the class, he added 'i feel for you'...which caused all of us to burst out laughing.
not commenting about maths.
bio lecture was one with surprisingly restless students and sniggers here and there. we're touching on the last option topic of sexual reproduction in humans and certain comments given by our dear lecturer caused the whole lecture to burst out laughing as well.
chem tutorial. went for chem tutorial with steph 'cos i wanted to follow serene to get back the pw file after that. forgot to get the pw file from serene from the choir room in the end. hehe:) thongkheng and hanjie had to sit outside the classroom to do their chem common test and it was quite an amusing sight when you see pple going out at certain times to check if they can hear us or see the white board and all that. miss wong was in a good mood.
break came and went.
bio tutorial was one that took on a more serious note than former bio tutorials. but bio tutorials are always good to attend 'cos mrs teo will often allow us to try out the answers and show us why it might not be correct and all that.
no comments about econs lecture too.
now that school has started, it felt like it has never stopped before. realised that prelims start on the 23rd of august with GP being the first paper and bio practical being the next (for me). the real prelims are from the 13-24th of september, right after the september holidays.
might as well. i've caught onto the rhythm of doing things. let me continue.

result of euros finals was really disappointing. greece winning is so...:| due to a distorted body clock, my system of emotions is feeling a bit warped. i feel neutral. i feel like a news broadcaster.
had taekwondo grading early in the morning yesterday. supposed to meet the rest of the people at 7am at toa payoh interchange but woke up at 7 and decided to meet them at the indoor stadium itself...turned out that i reach there the same time (if not earlier than some) as the rest of them.
grading was quite disastrous. i forgot my pattern (which i guess was quite a feat 'cos we've done that pattern lots and lots of times for the competition)but thankfully the judge never noticed. then for sparring, i had to spar with this malay (or izzit indian?) girl whom i dunno and they took off my specs! gosh. without my specs i could hardly see anything. everything (including the girl) was a blur. the first kick i kicked when sparring started caused me to fall flat onto the floor:P ah well. had a nice time sparring though..'cos the girl kept hitting my back, and i kicked her front lots of time. haha. considering that it's the first time any of us had actually had contact sparring..i'd say we did quite okaily.
then went around walking in the central with jits and luxi 'cos jits and i decided that we'll go meet isobel without going home first. loitered for two hours around talking and looking for stuff.
then we went to meet iso in bishan to watch harry potter:D hehee. so nice to see her after some time. according to jits, she seems to have grown taller, most prob due to the fact that she has stopped slouching. harry potter was great. story was quite nicely woven together but it's really a pity that they didn't elaborate on who the marauders are and talk about the close relationship between the four of them, which might explain more of why prof lupin knew about the map and why sirius was harry's godfather instead of anyone else. ah well:)
then we walked around a little and settled at mph. felt really sleepy due to the lack of sleep in the morning and thus went home first. didn't sleep upon reaching home 'cos initially was supposed to meet sk and cs at kembangan cc to discuss cg in the kembangan cc. ah well. in the end, tt was cancelled.
yeah. met the rest of the pple at a later time in the night:) there was (in order of arrival time) jits, me, jiali, sengkim, kelvin, jasmine and her four tpjc friends (charlie, edwin, jeff and daniel ... eh. at least i think it's daniel. can't remember the name) and of course gwen(since it was gwen's house we went to:D). jas' brother joined us later.
heh. jiali cut her hair and the first word that came into mind after she told us that and after looking more closely at her hairstyle was that it reminded me of isobel. hahaa. ah well. she can spike her hair now:)
haha. spent the first part of the night playing cards and mahjong. it ended up that the four vj pple (jiali, kelvin, jits and me) were in one room playing mahjong. hahaa. quite interesting actually. we got tired of playing mahjong near the starting of euro finals and decided to use the mahjong tiles to construct structures (eg. bridge, tower, shape, town) and get gwen to guess them. hhaa. it was actually pretty interesting 'cos yah, it's true that all of us do construct them in a certain way, though kelvin was careful to change his style a little. but jiali guessed correctly that all his structures had a firm foundation:)
then euro finals! gosh. by that time pple got a little stoned... not going to comment further on the game.
heh. thought i was going to sleep immediately after the game but instead played more mahjong with jasmine, charlie and jeff. gosh. ended up snuggling into the bed at 6.48am++
woke up at 12+ and saw that jiali had already woken up. felt quite bad sleeping till the afternoon. though seriously speaking, gwen's room is nice and cosy to sleep in and it felt as though it's 8 in the morning instead of 12+ already.
we watched lion king 2 in the afternoon after everyone has woken up. heh:) still felt quite sleepy though. heheheh:D

everything strange is happening at the same time. i'm quite befuddled about the things that's happening and all i can do is to pray to God for help.

everywhere i go, i see Your face

O my God, this love, how can it be-
before i continue anything, joyce (tan) is coming back to singapore for a little while from vancouver, canada. i'm announcing on my blog 'cos apparently i'm the only one who knows she's coming back:P and i figured i'll share this good news with everyone. hahaha. think nina's like the only one who knows her and reads my blog:P) and she's going to spurt out blood 'cos i didn't know that vancouver's in british columbia, which is called BC for short.

hahah. had taekwondo training at toa payoh sports hall today...spent like 15 mins waiting with sean for anyone else to appear 'cos no one seemed to be there but us. thankfully jits came, then lots more pple came as well. training was really informal...only me and huixian and jits practiced our pattern (we're still in timing! gosh!) and our kicks (sidekick followed by backthrust) while everyone else sat around in a circle and ate pineapple tarts brought by vanessa:|
hahaha. they sat around for an hour plus till me n jits had to go. so funny:D
service was quite interesting. hahaha:D euro world cup kept being mentioned:D
actually the 'best of the best' thing got me thinking... was just sharing with twin that i think if we're to award the 'best of the best' thing, there're really too many pple that i can think of. and two pple that particularly really struck my mind was jt and hc.
really. i think it's 'cos these two pple impacted my life first. travelling from west to east for every cg, shepherding, sowing, evaxing... had the sudden inspiration to affirm huichun for her faithful spirit in taking care of the cg last time and for shepherding jitsy even when it's cross-service.
the power of how Jesus can touch pple's hearts and change pple's lives...and in turn just continue to touch more and more lives. the characteristics of Jesus shown forth in pple all around me (in my cg members, in my shepherd, in my sheep, in my twin, my brothers and sisters.) so many things i can learn from them, so many things i can learn from Jesus.
so many thoughts that really raced through my heart today. so many things i wish i can express, but words can't show anything. i want to convict them in my heart. to truly etch it upon my heart and soul. to do it. i want to start everything going.
-i stand here before You in wide opened wonder amazed
at the glory of You-
i should go and sleep. it's 2.12am and there's grading tmr:)

hmm. joy's tagboard has become a forum for everyone to post on. how interesting.
wanted to download a really good programme for creating, editting and doing effects on images called Gimp but there're simply too many instructions for me to do before i can get the whole programme. need to download and install mirrors and assemble the whole thing myself. i think i'll go figure it out one day when i'm more free:P

oooof. i'm hungry. very hungry:D
econs paper was a killer, so pretty, so beautiful, words so wonderfully worded together, the questions in particular were sharp and deadly weapons which aim straight for your brains and heart:P
hahaha:D not really affected by it. goodness knows why. i guess it's 'cos the whole class was also moaning and bemoaning about their fate after the econs paper. the first words that came out of some people's mouths were 'i'm going to die!'. the first words that came out of my mouth was 'i'm freezing to death!'
it was, i would say, the most dreadful paper i have ever done.
but it's okay:D it's only a common test. thank God.
and what greets me tomorrow is my favourite subject. hahaha:D
not forgetting that it's the last day of common tests!
but actually that's not what excites me. strangely enough, i'm looking forward to the start of school so that everything will fall into a steady motion once again. i looking forward to the continual of time.
in a strangely animated mood right now. quite delightful, quite intriguing to me. i think it's 'cos of the long talk i had with God last night.

ohohoh! i just remembered something. was observing on the bus how whenever two pple on the bus were having a conversation on their hps at the same time, it seems as though they're talking to each other. and there was once on 238 when i observed two middle-aged guys really talking to each other on the phone 'cos what they say answers each other's questions. they didn't realise it! hahaha. 'cos one was in front and the other at the back. so amusing:D

had the 'inspiration' to actually go on blackboard and see if the teachers are kind enough to post the papers online...but apparently, i'm not enrolled into the course for econs. instead, i have extra courses like physics, maths S paper and chemistry.

scanning my computer now... downloaded AVG anti-virus system 'cos my macafee doesn't seem to update itself. goodness knows why. anyway, the anti-virus system is completely free and you can get it from here with no strings attached:) hahaha. advertiser. comes complete with updates and all..
ooh. the construction work stopped. okay. cool. time for econs:D

idiosyncrasy is an unusual personality trait:)
disastrously sleepy right now. hahaha. maths was better than i thought. still not very fun. question 2(i), 3, 4 and 5 were all... well. not very friendly to me:) surprisingly the back questions were easier.
'cos those questions had trigo and differentiation! i never studied these two. quite cool to be able to realise that what type of integration to use immediately though. hhahaa:D and gosh. they cheated our feelings. said we've gotta studied coordinate geometry, vectors and complex numbers...well. in the end, very little of each of these three came out. there was no need for vectors at all 'cos it was a 3D trigo question:)
gp...haha. had a nice time writing the gp compo.. wrote question 5 which was something like 'the young people today never had it better. Do you think this is true in Singapore?' relatively fun to write. hahaha:D comprehension was not very friendly though... it's not that the questions are difficult..it's just that afternoon's not a very nice time to do paper..the afternoon snoozes caught up with me and i had a hard time keeping awake. thank God for huiling's two sweets which actually lasted through the entire 3 hours:D wow. God multiplied the volume of the sweet:D
we met in the morning to pray for the exams:D quite an interesting time. hahaha.
let me be proactive about rest.

taking a break from studying..continuing later. hahaha:D doing maths questions..
i know it's supposed to be quite a bad idea to study late the night before...but then i dun have exams on tuesday...nor on wed. so yup. hahaha:D after tonight, there's time for ample rest again:D
i have no idea why the common tests this time feel so much more like real exams. hahaha:D it's strange. 'cos the last batch of common tests felt...normal. i think it's 'cos we had a lot of time to study this time and 'cos the j1s are having their exams. hahaha:D
ooof.
was studying with xinyi, joanna, meizhen and lincoln at emerald bk this evening when we decided to make a pact to study every sunday till the A levels from now on. hahaha:D we even signed a contract (made by me!) though it wasn't really formal and everything. going to touch up on it when we have time, so that should there be anyone deciding not to study out of pure laziness, the contract will be flashed to the person to scare him/her. hahahaa:D kiddin' actually it's to see who's coming 'cos we're changing the location weekly.
whoever wants to join us can join us! hahaha:D so cool. i think if there're a lot of pple, we'll just split back into our own caregroups.

went to steph's house to get the formula list to photocopy (didn't photocopy in the end 'cos came home too late), then walked from steph's house to fungi's house to pass her the envelope. her doorbell works! got quite a shock when her dad opened the door and called out my name. ended up staying for a while at her house at the suggestion of her dad to stay for a while and chat. *grInz*

i woke up this morning feeling all jittery and anxious 'cos the fact that maths common test is tomorrow suddenly hit me.
i think it's the idea of maths common test being the first paper...hahaha:D i dun feel anxious about GP or bio or econs...hahaha:D
i'm suddenly reminded of mrs chan's words from last yr to last yr's j2s... 'it's time for an exponential increase in grades':P
normally if it's just for me, i'll like to be able to simply waffle through everything. hahaa. but i can't now. everything i'm doing, i'm going it for God. and one particular verse is stuck in my heart ... 2 Timothy 2:15 'Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth'.

spiderman 2's gala premiere was held at cathay cineleisure:D hehe.
sis had to surrender her hp to the security at level 1 'cos it can take photos... then we went up to level 2 and there were ushers to usher us especially through buttercup coffee to the other side instead of having to walk one big round..hahaha:D that was the first 'privilege'. then we went up to the fifth level...they actually closed the entire ticketing booth area on level 5 from 7-10pm especially for this event and there was dinner! hahaha. there was a buffet...quite a high class one. haha... as well as people wearing quite formal wear walking around... drinks came in champagne glasses (goodness knows why) and food was refilled constantly. it looked kinda like a formal party actually, with people gathering in small groups and talking amongst themselves. quite an interesting atmosphere.
saw lots of tcs artistes... saw wong qing hai (hahaha! qing's choice!), jeff wong, lai yilin, cai ying ying (melissa), pan lingling and her husband and her two sons, huang biren, zeng shi mei(priscilla) and some other channel 5 and channel 8 artistes i can't remember the names of...also saw the members of train! hahaa.
mrs goh chok tong was actually standing beside me before i realised that she was standing beside me ..only realised it when the cameras started to gather around. sister and i were quite trapped 'cos we had the tcs artistes in front of us and mrs goh chok tong beside us and the wall behind us. hahaha.
got signatures 'cos sister wanted them...wanted to help qing get the autograph of wong qing hai...we tailed him but he was eating, so we decided it's not good to disturb, then after eating, he was talking to his friend and then he went into the theatre.
before going into the theatre, we had to go through a security scan again and before going into the theatre, we were each given a lollipop stuck inside a spiderman thing..dunno wat it's called. at our seats, there was a notebook with spiderman featured on the front page.
and spiderman 2 was good! gosh. the shooting, the cinematography was wonderful! but quite scary at the front part. and the sound. whoa. the sound system was...
whoa. the sound was so visual.
and after the movie ended (go watch it!!! 4 and a half stars recommendation!), we were all given a packet of drink. hahaha.
i think the whole aim of a gala premiere is to make the guest feel pampered. haha. quite amusing.
interesting experience anyway. but nothing compared to the star whom i met in the afternoon!

He's more dashing than the most dashing person and has made millions and trillions of people fall in love with Him. Over the years, all other stars fade away, but gosh! People fall over in love with Him again and again and again, all through the century, all through the years.
When you focus on your attention on Him, gosh...nothing else can take your breath away more than Him. He makes think of Him alone and all my troubles, all my worries, they become so teeny weeny you can hardly see them.
and the best of all, i can talk to Him everyday! what more can i ask for?;)

saw shauna and her sister today too..haha. shaun's got an interesting hairstyle now.

was talking to twin on the phone when what she said shocked me and made me realise that indeed, how unpredictable and fragile life can be. the urgency of everything strikes me once again. and how timely God places everything amazes me as well. thank God that the sister is now with Jesus.

i seriously don't know what to say. hahaha. i wish that people will just see that Jesus is the only way, the only truth and the only life... everyone of us has a God-sized hole...and only Jesus can fill it... nothing else. regardless of pop-stars, studies, relationships...it'll never fill the vacuum in our heart for God's love. You can gain the whole earth, but if you forfeit your soul, what's the use. you'll never be truly fulfilled, truly joyful. don't people realise that we feel the slightest nudge of emptiness inside us, it's already God trying to tell us that 'hey! you need me in your life. hmm. i'm curious. why're so many people putting the song lyrics of 'what makes you different (makes you beautiful)' by bsb in their nicks these days? strange.
had cg at tampines today..hehe. we ate at burger king together and wrote cards of encouragement to the person on the left and right of us 'cos exams are coming and as the bible say in proverbs - 'he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed'. yeah well:) got something from jiali which quite surprised me. haha.
anyway, we went down an aged home which i can't remember the name of... just remembered that it's at 130 hougang ave 1 and was terribly hard to find. hahaa. felt strange there 'cos we didn't really know what to do..the brothers and sisters started to disperse around to talk to the old folks and i did the same. i never really know how to interact with them 'cos i don't have grandparents. some old folks were quite willing to chat, some not so willing, some wanted to chat but i couldn't understand them...gwen kept singing songs to fill up the silence gap and song dedications from the old folks were flying around. i wish we could do something more than just entertaining them like this.. they need company which we can't provide in just an hour or so. nevertheless, hope some of them enjoyed the company:)
it's doing cip that made me consider the path of a social worker or a lifetime volunteer... the down syndrome kids, the people in the one room flats, the elderly in aged homes and hospitals... i don't want to just touch-and-go:P
yet i know that my strength is not in there. it's not completely my heart's desire to go to that path. hmm. dunno. i process better and express better when i talk everything out. and sometimes what i speak surprises myself even.
i guess that's why i was 'aaron' and jitsy was 'moses' hahahaha! right jitsy?
anyway after the trip to the aged home, going home was quite confusing 'cos everyone seemed to be unsure of how to get to anywhere. was following the west sisters when i realised that they were going to take a bus. i figured that if i kept walking in the same direction, i'll reach kovan sometime or another 'cos when i jumped onto dancing's car last time, the car passed by that area before, so i roughly knew the general direction of where kovan mrt is, just that i don't know how far it is. kept walking and walking till i reached an area which looked where jean lived. hahaha. so i continued walking. my target was a macs after turning left at a junction 'cos i remembered it from last time. was starting to doubt if where i was walking to was correct 'cos it took a long time to reach that macs but eventually, i reached my target. hahahaha:D yeah!
when i was walking alone to kovan mrt station, i couldn't help being acutely aware of one of my weaknesses.. pastor jeff is right. it's only through our various weaknesses that we can truly see how much we need God. His mercy, His grace and His providence.

studied with jits and guan today. hehe. i dun think it was very productive for them..it was quite productive for me a while after we started and when i listened to 'for this cause' on jit's walkman at a rather high volume. hehehe:D
yeah. starting to pick up the speed... let's pray that it continues on:D

jiali and i were studying early in the morning at istana park today...hahaha. interesting morning. hahaha.
at first we were studying near the water, then the sun came and we shifted to the chairs. i think 'cos it's early in the morning, i started to feel sleepy..hahahaa. quite disastrous considering that u're trying to memorize stuff about growth and development:P short chats here and there helped though. so did jiali's lakerols.. hahahaha:D
the transition from morning to afternoon came subtly when i became more awake, jiali started to feel a little sleepy (izzit?:D) and birds took over the place of flies in istana park...hahaa. 'cos there's this malay lady who was feeding them with bread:)
lunch was at long john's! which looked really spacious with mirrors on both sides...hahaha. studying after lunch wasn't particularly productive 'cos the afternoon snoozles start to creep up on you...was trying to understand differential equations:| (learnt from weez that only the very first part is tested. cheat my feelings. hahahaha:D)
i haven't gotten the pictures for holy comm night!!! hahaha. ziwei got hers! i want mine! hahahaha:D

i love the people. and i love my friend.
but i hate the sin.
anyway, i do believe that sometimes it's just a misunderstanding of the deeper levels of love towards friends that do cause people to start wondering about other things. and the mind does 'wonders', causing people to keep pondering about it. and females. well. females. we do 'feel' a lot sometimes.
anyway, that's my contribution about the whole thing after a few years of seeing stuff, of feeling stuff, or going through stuff and sharing stuff.

yesterday was father's day.. haha. went out with mum and sister in the evening to finally get shirts for dad and to treat him to dinner.
so strange. father's day always seems less hyped up than mother's day... it's like, u'll see promotions and advertisements to buy this and that for your dad, but just not as much.
was just thinking about how my dad and mum are quite different in personality...hahaha. mum's choleric and dad is more phlegmatic O_o thankfully both are quite sanguine. hahaha. so at least they can talk to each other. i have a very friendly father and a very task-oriented mother. hahaha...
someone once said in a speech during graduation night in nygh that we get our personality traits mostly from our dad and our intelligence mostly from our mum. i guess it's quite true. considering i'm super non-choleric. my sister is more choleric than me i guess. hahaha. depends.

YES! today is saturday!:D and we had a very special service. today is the starting of the CENTRESTAGE services:D we had our own 'BLEEPERS, BLUNDERS and BLOOPERS' edition... uncensored, unmodified and unedited for all to view. (modelled after american idol's).
it was SUPER HILARIOUS. we couldn't stop laughing for like the first 15 mins or so... and it was very engaging...'cos of the game and the simple mime skit which caught pple's hearts. simple, yet bringing across an essential message:)
i loved it! hahaa. can't wait for the SEMI FINALS! when we can really see all 8 semifinalists sing and dance. hahaha:D so intriguing!:D

yes. my encounters for two weeks. before i start, please pray for twin. she's having a fever of more than 38 degrees celsius.
2 weeks ago...monday:
met joyce and jocelyn and the rest of them at buona vista mrt station..hahaha. surprisingly, i was the first to reach despite me leaving my house at rather a late hour. was carrying a broom and a pail (which never found its way back to my house again) and my big bag for staying over and walking around and having pple looking at me strangely as if i'm someone pretending to by a sweeper or something:)
yeah well:) games went quite smoothly...though we did take a lot of time trying out each game. hahaa:)we also prayed for ruisi 'cos she was having a fever...
by 8+ we were quite hungry...and we had yet to decide on a place to stay over at 'cos the nus eusoff hall pple said tt we can't stay over in their hall afterall..they'll be locking the place up:| and the idea of travelling back to toa payoh and travelling to nus again the next day didn't quite appeal to me, so i decided to stay over at central rc with cathy, yuqian, lausanne, jason and two other brothers whom i've forgotten the names of:| heh.
after dinner we tried out the games for 'amusing race'...was quite excited about my station 'cos everyone screamed when we tried my station out and i was just laughing my head off. hehehe:)
then we had this station whereby you have to flip urself over (called suicide window) from one side of the railing to another...it was quite scary just before u had to flip 'cos it seemed as though u'll bang ur head against the railings and concuss or something...or else u'll prob just slip and fall and everything else. but once u tried it, it's really fun. hahaha:) shirley came to join us and she tried it too..
then off we went to rc to rest. haha. me and yuqian and mandy and shirley hopped onto the first cab seen... so bad right. the rc was super near nus...it's extremely near holland village. haha:) it's like. 1 min walk away or something:)
yeah well. being the first to reach rc, me and yuqian decided to go to 7-11 to get something...then we saw the rest coming up by the lift, so we waited for them...and alvin (one of the brothers of whom i forgot the name just now...heh) held an extremely fast 'caregroup' inside the lift. super corny.
i dunno what yuqian did...but i remember chasing her all the way to 7-11 in someone's super heavy slippers. they're nice to step around with 'cos they're heavily cushioned with lots of air...but it's not fun to run around with them. hehe:)
yeah well. we made the signs and everything that night. quite an amusing night. just laming around...can't really remember doing wat. mandy and the rest of the leaders stayed up the whole night finishing the name tags for us. so touched. hehee.
took a cab down the next morning and we did our best to try to finish everything (eg. filling up flour...) the half-hour before registration started was super confusing and busy...everyone had to rush things to do..and 3/4 of the games comm pple were still with freddy preparing for the amusing race... and the few of us left had lots of things to pack and finish...and the pieces of cloth, turned from very nicely cut to... (eh..) not-so-nicely cut:D thought it was quite interesting how u can improvise on cutting cloth as well. hhaa:)
yeah. then the rest of the day was when games commenced and teaching commenced and the rest of the brothers and sisters came (so nice to see them again:D)
i think the thing about camps is that they contain a lot of fresh insights, new goals, renewed passion, interesting memories, knowledge, deep thinking, fun and laughter which can't really be contained in a page-ful of words...and the best i can do is to retain these as memories, packed to keep them as fresh as if i am still reliving them when i think back about the camp. so yes. i can't really put the three days of camp into words either.
i responded in the camp to two main things... one is about what i do with the time i have (more specifically, do i align what i do to the vision?) second thing is responding to being a cl by jan 2005. actually i responded to it as a sign of truly wanting to follow my leaders and support them all the way. how to say. like... my main focus is to fulfill the vision that we have for vj...and it doesn't really matter to me if i'm a cl or not. just that if God appoints me to be one, i'll definitely accept it.
i can't quite remember what i did last friday. or sat ('cept that there was service and jasmine did a very nice 'card' for jocelyn:D). or sunday ('cept that my mum and sister and i went out to shop for clothes to wear to my cousin's wedding dinner night. what's this. year of weddings of nieces and cousins? *boggles* haha).
ah well.
monday. studied with jiali at macs before wfl... hahha. shepherd had to take care of sheep, so shepherd took sheep up to oceania room when she was going to prepare as well. sheep was quite amused and felt that she was having extended shepherding during wfl and now sheep thinks she's talking in xinyi's style.
tuesday...tuesday was a day of chalet..hahaa. was arguing with myself if i should go 'cos i can really use that one more day for studying...but went in the end 'cos i'll be disappointing two groups of pple if i dun go:) hehee. first was the chalet with 03S1D...me and steph thought we're late...in the end, we were the first females to reach:|
played mahjong (haha. munbbill is surprisingly good at it:|) and bridge... (hahhaa! 10-4... unfortunately ...or fortunately, depends on how u look at it, grouped with thong kheng. we won the 10 sets!!!:D:D:D) and heart attack. some things i remember was the crab killing minutes spent AWAY FROM THE KITCHEN 'cos crab killing didn't quite appeal to me (:P), eating nutella on its own and shouting 'hello!' to the pple at 'wild wild wet' with michelle and actually getting responses.
main food supply was chips and drinks. junk food basically.
then went over to tracy's chalet! hahaha. it was a combination of the former nygep pple and the rj pple. ate lots of food. chicken wings, marshmellows, satay, otah, sausages, crabmeats, chocolates, watermelon, potato with butter (or satay sauce)...yeah well:D
tracy and qing and weez are crazy:D hehe. i wanted to play bridge after all that eating and they wanted to play basketball:D we did play bridge. one round (!!!) and then it was basketball. can u imagine, all the food in our stomach? got a stitch after the game...combined with four guys who were there before us.
had study cg on wednesday:D was quite interesting. i observed a few study patterns about myself... then studied with them together on thurs again:D we should have an overnight study session. most of the time i was just getting into the mood to study again when i had to go home... :(
studying at amk galilee cafe with steph and dancing was too short to be effective. hehee. well thankfully i did finish my econs mindmap...so at least i can refer to it next time:)
TODAY IS SATURDAY!:D it was a hilarious saturday so it shall have an entry of its own. anyway, this one is getting too long for comfort. hhahaa:)
2 weeks ago...monday:
met joyce and jocelyn and the rest of them at buona vista mrt station..hahaha. surprisingly, i was the first to reach despite me leaving my house at rather a late hour. was carrying a broom and a pail (which never found its way back to my house again) and my big bag for staying over and walking around and having pple looking at me strangely as if i'm someone pretending to by a sweeper or something:)
yeah well:) games went quite smoothly...though we did take a lot of time trying out each game. hahaa:)we also prayed for ruisi 'cos she was having a fever...
by 8+ we were quite hungry...and we had yet to decide on a place to stay over at 'cos the nus eusoff hall pple said tt we can't stay over in their hall afterall..they'll be locking the place up:| and the idea of travelling back to toa payoh and travelling to nus again the next day didn't quite appeal to me, so i decided to stay over at central rc with cathy, yuqian, lausanne, jason and two other brothers whom i've forgotten the names of:| heh.
after dinner we tried out the games for 'amusing race'...was quite excited about my station 'cos everyone screamed when we tried my station out and i was just laughing my head off. hehehe:)
then we had this station whereby you have to flip urself over (called suicide window) from one side of the railing to another...it was quite scary just before u had to flip 'cos it seemed as though u'll bang ur head against the railings and concuss or something...or else u'll prob just slip and fall and everything else. but once u tried it, it's really fun. hahaha:) shirley came to join us and she tried it too..
then off we went to rc to rest. haha. me and yuqian and mandy and shirley hopped onto the first cab seen... so bad right. the rc was super near nus...it's extremely near holland village. haha:) it's like. 1 min walk away or something:)
yeah well. being the first to reach rc, me and yuqian decided to go to 7-11 to get something...then we saw the rest coming up by the lift, so we waited for them...and alvin (one of the brothers of whom i forgot the name just now...heh) held an extremely fast 'caregroup' inside the lift. super corny.
i dunno what yuqian did...but i remember chasing her all the way to 7-11 in someone's super heavy slippers. they're nice to step around with 'cos they're heavily cushioned with lots of air...but it's not fun to run around with them. hehe:)
yeah well. we made the signs and everything that night. quite an amusing night. just laming around...can't really remember doing wat. mandy and the rest of the leaders stayed up the whole night finishing the name tags for us. so touched. hehee.
took a cab down the next morning and we did our best to try to finish everything (eg. filling up flour...) the half-hour before registration started was super confusing and busy...everyone had to rush things to do..and 3/4 of the games comm pple were still with freddy preparing for the amusing race... and the few of us left had lots of things to pack and finish...and the pieces of cloth, turned from very nicely cut to... (eh..) not-so-nicely cut:D thought it was quite interesting how u can improvise on cutting cloth as well. hhaa:)
yeah. then the rest of the day was when games commenced and teaching commenced and the rest of the brothers and sisters came (so nice to see them again:D)
i think the thing about camps is that they contain a lot of fresh insights, new goals, renewed passion, interesting memories, knowledge, deep thinking, fun and laughter which can't really be contained in a page-ful of words...and the best i can do is to retain these as memories, packed to keep them as fresh as if i am still reliving them when i think back about the camp. so yes. i can't really put the three days of camp into words either.
i responded in the camp to two main things... one is about what i do with the time i have (more specifically, do i align what i do to the vision?) second thing is responding to being a cl by jan 2005. actually i responded to it as a sign of truly wanting to follow my leaders and support them all the way. how to say. like... my main focus is to fulfill the vision that we have for vj...and it doesn't really matter to me if i'm a cl or not. just that if God appoints me to be one, i'll definitely accept it.
i can't quite remember what i did last friday. or sat ('cept that there was service and jasmine did a very nice 'card' for jocelyn:D). or sunday ('cept that my mum and sister and i went out to shop for clothes to wear to my cousin's wedding dinner night. what's this. year of weddings of nieces and cousins? *boggles* haha).
ah well.
monday. studied with jiali at macs before wfl... hahha. shepherd had to take care of sheep, so shepherd took sheep up to oceania room when she was going to prepare as well. sheep was quite amused and felt that she was having extended shepherding during wfl and now sheep thinks she's talking in xinyi's style.

thank God for computer technicians...thank God for windows xp that's now controlling everything in my comp...thank God for people not flooding my inbox (or it could be that no other mails could get in)...

gosh. slept for 11 and a half hours... haha. woke up at 11.30am when cathy called me to tell me what to bring for camp today... physically i dun feel quite rested yet. hope we don't stay up too late tonight:)
been getting a lot of 'on government service' letters that kept my parents wondering using interesting ways of bugging me about joining the gepaa and the anniversary dinner. hahaha. i think we can hold the anniversary dinner ourselves.
actually i think we should have a reunion dinner ourselves.
yeah. just typed out a letter to them and sent it. hope the response is good.
yeah! sze just confirmed tt she's free on the 23rd! hahahaha:D rocks.

back from family camp!:D so nice! hahaha. it's really so cool to have thousand ++ of us all in the same ballroom praising and worshipping God and honouring one another.how heartening it is to know that everyone around you loves Jesus and truly wants to serve Him as well:D

i think a few things i remember the most out of the camp was how the first praise and worship already ministered greatly to me, pastor dinah's inspirational teaching which impacted using stories, how the staff team truly show forth Christ's example to serve, how the leaders honour their leaders, the very interesting workshop that really appealed to me (counselling in discipling process), the holy communion night where marcus had the inspiration of getting all the former PTE pple to take a photo and then subsequently we had the idea of getting all the PT pple to take a photo together (jieyun says it's like an annual reunion for all of us to remember each other, i think it also serves the purpose of spurring each of us on to continue running the race) and the late night talking sessions (or shall i say early morning?) with jiali (for both nights) and with jitsy(for the second night)which allowed me to get to know jiali (as a shepherd, as a friend) better. actually i feel tt she initiated the whole talking thing.. hahaha.
-night time sharpens, heightens your sensation
darkness stirs and wakes imagination-
i should go and sleep soon. hahaha. sleeping over for hs/jc camp tmr 'cos the game comm pple are going there one day early to prepare for everything:D can't wait for it! at eusoff hall! u all can still sms me!:D heh.

We have a rather crazy bird that keeps smashing into our kitchen window, I presume trying to reach his/her reflection. I keep trying to outsmart it, but it keeps coming back for more of the same kind of treatment. I had the same thing happening at my former home. They just don't get it.
I have also read how, "If you put a buzzard in a pen that is 6 feet by 8 feet and is entirely open at the top, the bird, in spite of its ability to fly, will be an absolute prisoner. The reason is that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a run of 10 to 12 feet. Without space to run, as is its habit, it will not even attempt to fly, but will remain a prisoner for life in a small jail with no top.
"A bumblebee, if dropped into an open tumbler, will be there until it dies, unless it is taken out. It never sees the means of escape at the top, but persists in trying to find some way out through the sides near the bottom. It will seek a way where none exists, until it completely destroys itself."
Some, perhaps many, people are entrapped in hopeless situations because they are not looking for or seeing the way out of their predicament. I've been there myself in days past until I wised up. In my work I see people making the same mistakes over and over again failing to realize that what we don't resolve, we are destined to repeat ...repeat ... repeat. As the saying goes, "If we keep doing what we've always done, we'll keep getting what we always got, and we'll keep feeling what we've always felt."
The beginning point for finding the way out of any predicament is always to look up--to look to God and pray the right prayer. That is, ask God to show you the truth of what you are contributing to the situation, to show you what you need to do to resolve it, and to help find the help/counsel you need to overcome.

hahaha! just saw the picture of a primary sch friend i used to hang out with a lot in primary school... hannah. she looks pretty now!
i remember her quite vividly 'cos i used to hang out with her, xavier and lynette (best fren in primary sch) in primary school..and she was the only one who's not from my class, but nevertheless we still see each other every morning and all.
got me into tons of trouble 'cos i'll go out with them and this bunch of guys will always join us and mum will say lots of bad things abt them and all. and i'll have fierce quarrels with mum whenever she says bad things abt them...but they're not bad pple, just more playful. and the bunch of us will go to the arcade and play 'house of the dead'. hahaha.
at first i still kept in touch with hannah and xavier after going to sec sch...but gradually, we didn't call each other anymore.
so sad.
hhahaa.

was quite frustrated by how several of my planned out stuff for this week have to changed/edited/deleted/pushedback/shortened for this week of various new things which came by on its way and i was unable to nicely fill in things and all tt due to unknown factors. and once my timetable is printed out from the comp, i want it to be perfectly planned. no changes. nothing. (how demanding)
so being quite frustrated, i decided to turn to the Word of God 'cos i was reading through today's WFL notes in advance and was just starting to read the new chapter about the Word. yup:D
flipped to James and started reading it again out of my own accord and the verse 1:5 spoke to me. 'If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him' and i prayed to Him...and ta-da. well. instead of filling in the activities as how it should be, why not just decide about the activities myself first (okay. this does sound strange in words, but it made perfect sense to me.)... so out went my frustration and in came a nicely planned timetable, which will not be amended, but things can be added on.
actually God also showed me tt this frustration does have underlying reasons and it surfaced as a result of me realising the symptons, but failing to rectify it completely and with determination. so nice of God to give me verses too. hahaha:D
anyway, flipping through the bible for the verses today suddenly made me miss the times when i can spend a long time just poring over the verses in the bible, wondering about the meaning, thinking about applications and linking it to other parts, then writing them down. checking online for more insights about what the verses mean and everything. Has my love for the WOG diminished? what a scary thought. i shall allocate time for more feasting on the WOG every week:D
i love the book of James:D it's the book which i really love. hahaha. repetition. and really explore. and ponder. and ask.
1 Peter too. hahaha. should apply this curiosity and ernestness in knowing more about the books to other books as well. and pray for the curiosity and ernestness to continue on and on and on and on forever!

the games in hilarious inn were quite hilarious:D we're the shu1 cong2 pai4...hahaha:D fighting with gai4 bang1 and luffy bang1 (one peace!) for the title of the inn owner. hahaha:D everyone in the audi cheered and cheered...and dolphin started the cheering of 'shu cong, shu cong shu cong..'

saw joy and this guy who was in my WFL class last year in point foodcourt while me, jits, joce, gwen and jingting were settling there for lunch.hahaha:D joy's first response is to hug us, while our first response was one of exclamation. poor joy:D
we had a nice time of sharing lame jokes and playing lame games during dinner time today:D *grInz* truly enjoyed it:)

hah... in the school comp lab now.
wanted to watch anastasia! in v25... but the room is locked. came to the comp lab but didn't know how to open the file (so strange. it doesn't load by itself) yup:) so i'm stuck updating the blog. going to the library with jits later, haven't gone to the library for some time.

True, I "may" be able to hide who I really am on the inside from you, from my family and friends, but one thing is certain: I cannot hide from God. One day who I really am will be revealed by God for all to see. Much smarter and healthier to clean up our life now while the door of opportunity is so wide open. No matter what we have ever done or have failed to do, God is ready to forgive us, to heal us, to deliver us if we are truly repentant and acknowledge who and what we really are--not to whitewash over our sins with a covering of "snow" but wash us "whiter than the snow."

hmmm...this is quite interesting...i find it quite fun to type really fast right now at a constant speed. it feels as though my fingers are communicating with the keyboard or something and they're chatting happily, thereby allowing me to be able to have a fast typing speed.
yeah! school was dismissed today at 10.35am due to the victory at the soccer match... i wonder if there's going to be a full day tmr. hahahaa:D hope the hockey girls win! yeah! most probably all of us will be going down to support the cricket boys. i have confidence in the hockey girls and the cricket boys, but not too sure about the badminton girls...hehehe:D
had my 2.4km run today (finally!) was just thinking yesterday tt i'm most prob going to die halfway 'cos i haven't done any running for 3 weeks. hahaha:) so i prayed for God to help me. hahaha:)
was quite amazed when the first round came in at 2.15, then the next round at 4+ (i can't remember wat)...anyway, my third round came in at 6.20! haha. but i grew lazy and decided to stop, thinking tt i'll walk for this round and run the rest. well, it didn't happen. the whole story is tt i took 8 mins plus plus plus for the next 3 rounds. ended up with a timing of 15.09.
btw, we ran in the rain. hahaa. it was drizzling when we started, and happily raining away in the middle. so, all of us were totally soaked through and all that. thank God for the early dismissal. haaa:D

-go vj go vj go!-
hahahah:D vj soccer boys won sajc for the finals! hahaha. 4-1! my goodness!:D wat an excellent score.
at first vj scored within the first 5 mins of the first half. hahahaha:D then SA scored in the 2nd half...then the whole vj population was so sad... i was already quite worried in the first half 'cos they've only scored one goal...don't want last yr's scenario to repeat again.
anyway, after sajc scored, the vj spirit literally soared (it was already very high. hahaha:D) and everyone was just cheering 'fight on vj fight on!' with their might:D and within 10 mins, vj did score again! hahaha. and then, we scored again! hahaha:D and then, we still score again! muahahha:D by then we knew we're the champions. hahaha:D
quite cool! everyone was cheering even though we're quite lethargic after having to wait for 2 hours for the thunderstorm to stop and for the B division match to finish:D it was like... the whole time we were just cheering and cheering away (using different cheers!)and if there's any pause, it was only for 1-2 seconds. hahaha:D and pple were really spontaneous! the tsd pple went 'whazzup lah whazzup' if any sa pple tripped our vj pple (intentionally:| we could tell between the intentionally ones and unintentionally ones:P)
anyway, at the end of it all, the basketball girls started to cheer 'full day!' and pple caught on. and then we changed it to '2 days!' hahaha. poor mrs chan...she must be wondering how to handle our 'demand' of 2 days off from school. hhaha:D anyway, she pretended not to hear us and wanted to ask mr tan about wat to do but mr tan just turned her around back to face us. hahahah!:D i dun mind 2 days off from school:D 'cos seriously, didn't expect the soccer pple to do so well!:D
anyway, i dun have much of a voice left. hahaha. and there's busking auditions this friday. perhaps i should just get out of the whole busking thing:)

Years ago I remember reading a simple but profound statement by Cecil Osborne. He said, "When we are hiding a deeper sin or fault, we tend to confess a lesser one all the more vigorously."
A friend of mine, for example, had been trying to overcome his smoking addiction for 20 years without success. No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn't break the addictive habit.
When he shared his struggle with me, I simply asked, "Why do you need to smoke?"
He looked at me with a blank stare as if to say, "Are you crazy, what are you talking about? I don't need to smoke."
He then mumbled a few incoherent sentences, turned around, and walked away. He died a few years later of cancer!
True, my friend's smoking addiction was a problem, but it wasn't the real problem. It was the fruit of a deeper root--the symptom of some unresolved issue he was either afraid or unwilling to examine. He was confessing the wrong sin/problem.
The same principle is true of all addictive behaviors and many of our negative and sinful actions. To overcome we need to be ruthlessly honest with ourselves, to at least one safe person who won't judge or put us down, and to God. We need to admit and confess not only the symptoms but the causes behind them. We may need to ask God to give us the courage to face these causes and to lead us to the help, support, and recovery program we need to overcome them.
This is the kind of praying God loves to hear and answer. As his word says, he "is near to all who call on him in truth."

i think there are a few things i've still been holding on even after i've come to accept Christ. need to think through these things, understand what God wants me to learn from them, put them down and claim the right to a new life.
met up with the games comm pple today:D hehehe. made a few new friends... hahaha. i can't wait for next monday when we try out the games!:D it'll be so cool! and i can't wait for the student camp to come! the games are so... cool! hahaha:D refreshing unique never-quite-seen-before (in my opinion) games which will keep u squealing and laughing and on ur feet for 2 hours straight:D
my twin's got a big 'dumpling' on her finger... (injured finger). please pray for her. please also pray tt michelle will very nicely remember to bring her tape recorder:D hehehe:D

was just listening to my self-recorded tape from 4 years ago (sec 2)
-come morning light,
just a victim of fantasy-
lots of songs recorded as well. including my first ever favourite english song 'all i want is you'- 911! and gee. i was mudding while i was recording the song. and we went to seoul garden:| and i was being a pretend dj. so farnie!!!
and the other side of the tape had me and my sis pretending to be soft toys talking...or rather doing xiang4 sheng1...and a really adorable version 'doraemon'. hahahaa:)

knew about what the restructuring is about..North is finally combining with each other, and east will just be east. and priscilla's going to take north, and shirley's going to take east.
again, it doesn't affect me much... but i think it'll be a change for some leaders:) was quite heartwarming when they affirmed priscilla though...she's really touched lives around her:) and more than that as well. quite touching too, some of the things she has done. she's a person whose spirit really will overflows to you:) and lots more as well.

yesterday's time with cs was really annointed. God gave me the wisdom and the sensitivity to know what to talk about and when to talk about some stuff. the whole time with cs flowed so smoothly that i knew it can't be me, it has to be God. 'cos i seriously didn't know how to bring out certain topics. God also opened up cs' heart to me:) yup. really wanna affirm her for her accountability and openness in her life.

finally. lots of things to settle before passing on to my jie1 ban1 ren2 though:)

i know for sure, all of my days are
held in Your hands, crafted into
Your perfect plan-
quite comforted when i listen to the new exco discuss about plans for huahui in the future and the investiture. yahyah..i know we aren't supposed to be listening to the investiture...but afterall, it's their first exco meeting and seriously speaking, i dun think any of the former exco pple are totally relaxed about letting them hold their first exco meeting themselves:)
longyuan kinda broke down a bit 'cos zhangkuo told her tt he wants to quit the exco... then she went on to say about how much tears and effort and meetings we held...all the things we dun have to do but did all for the hope in seeing more juniors in hua hui and making everything easier for the exco this yr...
the scoldings and dissuading from the various teachers about hai cheng...or rather, whether we should have haicheng.
it wasn't easy i guess. having a not-very-united exco... and having so few members. and little support.
but i have strong hope for the new exco:D hahaha. the pple we chose are quite talented:)
yeah!

THE SECRET OF HAPPINESS
"Then he [Jesus] said to them, 'Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions'" (Luke 12:15, NIV).
The search for happiness is as old as mankind. Hedonism, an ancient Greek philosophy, stated that the chief end of man was happiness. Democritus, who lived in 460 BC, said, "Happiness is the object of our conduct." And Aristipus, a pupil of Socrates, put it this way. "The most intense pleasure is the highest good and is the aim of life."
People today still long for happiness, but in spite of our greatly increased knowledge and achievements so many people still haven't learned its secret.
On the University campus the highest death rate is caused by suicide. Hospital beds are filled with unhappy and lonely people. Some doctors estimate that over 80% of patients are suffering as a result of emotional distress. A world-famous psychiatrist claims that "the central neurosis of our time is emptiness." And according to the United
Nations World Health Organization, depression is the world's number one health problem.
Marilyn Monroe had everything that many seem to think brings happiness--beauty, wealth, fame, sex appeal, and popularity--but she ended her life in suicide. Actor Mel Gibson also had everything the world had to offer but he never felt happy or fulfilled. This is one reason he produced and paid to make the film, The Passion of the Christ.
It is claimed that Voltaire who was famous for his infidelity said on his deathbed, "I am lost! Oh, that I had never been born." And millionaire Jay Gould said when dying, "I suppose I am the most miserable devil on earth."
Actually, wealth, fame, power, or beauty don't make one happy or unhappy. They are externals. Happiness comes from within. It is a by-product of an inner condition. If one lives only for personal happiness, he will probably never find it. As one person said, "The search for happiness is one of the chief sources of unhappiness."
Happiness is many things to many people. It depends on one's particular needs, abilities, interests, and maturity. Happiness for one man is to be an accountant, for another a farmer. Happiness for one woman is not to have any more children, for another to have several more--not that any one of these in and of itself can make anyone happy.
For me, happiness begins with being honest with myself and learning to understand and accept myself for who and what I really am. This way I can utilize my strengths and work towards overcoming my weaknesses.
"I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want" (Philippians 4:11-12, NIV).
As said, happiness is many things to many people. For one thing, it means we need to know and accept ourselves for who we are.
Happiness also means learning to accept my personal circumstances. Some of them can be changed. Others can't. And unless I accept the ones that can't be changed, I'll never be happy or content. As blind Helen Keller said, "I thank God for my handicaps, for through them I have found myself, my work, and my God."
Happiness is also having a worthwhile goal ... a noble purpose for which to live ... something of value to strive for.
I was once talking to a union representative on a construction job. At the time he was also demonstrating for a cause that was popular back then. He told me he joined this group because it gave him something to live for. I don't know if this man is still demonstrating for a cause,
but certainly everybody needs something to live for other than himself and his own happiness.
Happiness in itself is not a worthwhile goal to live for. To be happy all of the time is unreal, as happiness is only one of life's great emotions. To be in touch with all of one's feelings is more important than being happy all of the time. To feel sad, hurt, angry, afraid, and unhappy at the appropriate times is both normal and healthy. However, if one is unhappy most of the time, this is nature's way of
telling him/her that something is missing in his life or some conflict needs resolving.
To be happy, one also needs to have worthwhile work into which one can put one's best efforts.
Everybody has some talents, and to find personal fulfillment and happiness, it is important that he discover his gifts, receive adequate training to sharpen them, and find a place to use them. This is equally true for both men and women.
It is a wise man who helps his wife find, develop, and use her special gifts. He will reap just rewards through his wife's increased fulfillment and happiness.
Unfortunately, at times of economic uncertainty, finding fulfilling work through employment may not always be possible for everybody. However, there are many avenues to find fulfillment other than through paid work. If one is creative, one can get involved in arts and crafts and perhaps sell some of the items made. One can help many others by becoming involved in church work or with other volunteer service agencies.
"Blessed and fortunate and happy and spiritually prosperous are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God), for they shall be completely satisfied!" (Matthew 5:6, AMP).
We have already pointed out that happiness is many things to many people. It means we need to know and accept ourselves for who we are; learning to live with circumstances we are not able to change; it is having a worthwhile and noble purpose for which to live; and something of value to do.
"If you find a really happy man," states one author, "you will find him building a boat, writing a symphony, educating his son, or growing double dahlias in his garden. He will not be searching for happiness as if it were a button that has rolled under the wardrobe, he will not be striving for it as a goal in itself, he will have become aware that he is happy in the course of living life to the full twenty-four hours of the day.
The happy person also has healthy relationships with other people. The person who lives only for himself is immature and usually very miserable. Even the ancient Greeks had a word for the self-centered person. It was idios from which we get our word, "idiot." It means belonging to one's self.
To love and be loved is without question one of our greatest need for happiness, without which is our greatest source of unhappiness. Without love all else in life is meaningless. Once again, however, love comes from within. If we give love we will receive love. That is a law of life. Unfortunately, many people, especially in childhood,
were hurt because of a lack of love and as adults are afraid to love for fear of being hurt again. With effective counseling and the will to overcome this fear can usually be conquered.
A well-integrated self is also needed for happiness. If the self is whole or mature, happiness will follow.
The greatest man who ever lived, Jesus Christ, is our great example. He developed in every area of his life. He "increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man" (Luke 2:52 ). That is, he matured mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally. We need to do the same.
Finally, character and a clear conscience are critical for lasting happiness. To feel forgiven for all the wrongs one has done gives one a deep sense of freedom. Any wrongs, therefore, that we have done need to be put right and any impaired relationships resolved. Not only do we need our brother's forgiveness, but also God's. When we confess our
sins and faults to Him, He always forgives us. We then need to forgive ourselves.
Remember, happiness is a process not an event. Diligently follow the process and happiness/contentment will be the rich reward.
